Abstract
In this 15-minute presentation, Forest Concepts Senior Engineer David Lanning discusses the Techno-Economic Analysis (“TEA”) on the Crumbler® rotary shear system completed in partnership with Idaho National Laboratory. The project compared the feedstock preprocessing pathways of the Crumbler® system and a hammermill.
Lanning shares the resulting advantages the TEA revealed for the Crumbler® shear, including uniform particle size and distribution, lower aspect ratio, and higher flowability. Of particular emphasis is the significant cost savings of size reduction before drying. The implications for biorefineries could be as much as $54 million in energy consumption savings per year.
