Flowing Crumbles

Forest Concepts Receives 2015 AE50 Award for its novel Crumbles® precision feedstocks

Under a DOE SBIR project, Forest Concepts developed the Crumbles® Precision Feedstocks, deemed one of the year’s most innovative designs in engineering products or systems for the food and agriculture industries. The Crumbles® Precision Feedstocks will be featured in the January/February 2015 special AE50 issue of ASABE’s magazine Resource: Engineering &m Technology for a Sustainable World.

Mike Perry, Chief Executive Officer said: “We are pleased and honored to receive the AE50 Award for our novel Crumbles® Precision Feedstocks. Crumbles® biomass feedstocks are small flowable particles, of uniform size and shape, with adjustable surface area to volume ratio, produced with low comminution energy from green or dry biomass materials like wood chips, industrial veneer, corn stover and switchgrass.”

Companies from around the world submit entries to the annual AE50 competition and up to 50 of the best products are chosen by a panel of international engineering experts. The judges select products that will best advance engineering for the food and agriculture industries.

The AE50 awards program is sponsored by Resource to emphasize the role of new products and systems in bringing advanced technology to the marketplace. These engineering developments help farmers, food processors and equipment manufacturers cut costs, enhance quality and increase profits.

Resource, a magazine geared to agricultural, biological and food system engineers worldwide, is produced at ASABE headquarters in St. Joseph, Michigan. The publication is read by thousands involved in the agricultural, food and biological industries.

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) is an international scientific and educational organization dedicated to the advancement of engineering applicable to agricultural, food, and biological systems.

Its members, from more than 100 countries, are consultants, managers, researchers, and others who have the training and experience to understand the interrelationships between technology and living systems.

Forest Concepts is a biomaterials and process technology company with a growing portfolio of patents and solutions that convert biomass into high performing reactor-ready feedstocks. The company supplies woody and herbaceous feedstocks to universities, labs, and pilot scale commercial ventures. Equipment and process technology licenses enable feedstock producers and end users to prepare high-yielding feedstocks at scale.
